Brrrrr!! I’m freezing over here, y’all! It turned mighty cold over Thanksgiving break, and I wasn’t quite ready for this! We were under freeze warnings a few nights, and it was down to the twenties! TWENTIES!!! I’m almost positive I have stressed many times here on the blog how much I dislike the bitter cold. I know the seasons must change, and I am thankful for them all, but these past few winters we’ve had here in the Mississippi Delta have been some bitter-cold ones.
I’ll just warn you that this post may be food-heavy, and of course, it would be since we just had Thanksgiving! But it all starts the week before. My mama and I headed off to a dermatology appointment for her, and we decided to try a new-to-us cafe called Another Broken Egg.
I got the shrimp and grits, and it was divine! If you have one of these cafes near you, do yourself a favor and stop in! I can’t wait until we can go back again! I was also able to pop into Sephora on our trip! I have never been to Sephora. I’ve been to Ulta and loved it, so I was excited to pop into the place I buy from frequently online. Well, it was wild! Very crowded. I was overwhelmed with so many choices! I walked around and sampled a few things I had been thinking about ordering but was scared to unless I was sure. It was an experience!
I spent the weekend before Thanksgiving making my shopping list and cleaning. Hubby made it home Wednesday morning, and I woke up on Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, and made my macaroni and cheese to take to our family gathering. We gathered, once again, at my aunt’s little country church, and we had about 21 in attendance, I think. It was good to see everyone, and we had some great food! Here is my obligatory Thanksgiving plate!
And here are me and Hubby, visiting with everyone in the sanctuary before we ate:
But the coolest part of the day was when we arrived. This little deer walked up to the church and allowed a few of our family to pet it.
We were shocked at how friendly and unbothered it was, but it turns out he is a pet of sorts to the people who live near the church. A kid came outside and called for the deer, and it ran back! Wow! I will never forget this Thanksgiving!
Hubby was a wiz in the kitchen the entire time he was home, but we loved this Caldo de Pollo soup he made one day:
He tweaked it a little, but it was so, so good! It made so much! I love it when he cooks!
On Friday, Hubby headed to Oxford, Mississippi, for the Egg Bowl (Ole Miss vs. Mississippi State), while the Teen and I stayed home. I worked all day and evening on getting the Christmas tree up, and I’m missing some decor, but I think it may be in our storage shed. Maybe if I do a Christmas decor post, I’ll expand on what a debacle it was getting this tree decorated this year. UGHHH is all I will say for now! Haha!
I feel like I’ve rambled enough for one post. I’m actually writing this on Monday evening, and I feel like I do a better job of blogging in the morning when my brain is fresh. The Teen is back in college, but this is his last week before exams and Christmas break. This semester just went by fast! Tomorrow is another vet appointment for Jake (he’s doing much better), and I’ll probably hang out with my mama and see if she feels like getting some of her Christmas decor up. Hubby and The Teen got her tree out and up for her, but she hasn’t put ornaments on yet. We will see!
I’ll be back soon with more updates and stuff. I actually have some post ideas for once, haha!

Winter has come, but it sure seems like fall was super short this year. Another Broken Egg is so good. If you are ever in Germantown, Eggs Up Grill is my new favorite breakfast place. Glad you had a good Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends!

Sounds like you had a lovely Thanksgiving celebration with family. That soup looks delicious! 20F does sound cold to me! I don’t like the cold! I don’t know how I managed to survive six winters in Wisconsin! I hope that the rest of the Christmas decorating goes well.

Sounds like you had a great time and lots of good food! I really like the photo of you and hubby!
We’ve been getting snow since last week and another winter storm is predicted tomorrow with an “artic blast of cold air”! I’m ready to be done with it, but this is Michigan, so I better just hunker down.

All of that food looks delicious! At our old house, one of the neighbors tamed a fawn, and it hung out in their yard like a pet. That was fun. I hope decorating your mother’s tree goes better than yours did – whatever it was that happened. 🙂

Hello my Friend
Looks like it was a lovely holiday! Sorry you’re freezing and hope it warms up. It’s funny because 20’s where I’m from is like a heat wave in the winter. Lol You definitely wouldn’t love the northwoods full time. 🙂
How cool about that deer. So sweet. And the pic of you and your hubby is adorable! 😍
Blessings on the rest of your week.
xoxo
