Happy Wednesday! I’m finally back with updates and life lately around these parts! It’s been a whirlwind of a month, for sure! I am sure hoping that June will be much calmer.
First, thank you all so much for praying for my mama! She did amazingly well through her surgery and was able to be released from the hospital the next day. The Teen and I stayed until late Tuesday afternoon, when we were finally allowed back to see her in the ICU. She was groggy, but we assured her she did great and talked to her for a little while. We then left and started the drive home. The hospital is about two hours away. I called throughout the night to speak with the ICU nurse, who assured me she was doing well. The next morning, the Teen and I left bright and early to get her. However, about halfway through our trip, the air conditioner in my car died! I was so upset! It was a really hot day, and the drive home was miserable. My mama and the Teen never complained, but I was scorching hot! But we made it home ok and got Mama settled in for the evening.
This beautiful fountain at the hospital entrance would have been great for a nice, cooling dip that day, haha!
My aunt and uncle from Nashville came to stay with my mama the next day. My aunt is a nurse, so I was thankful she had planned to come. But Mama was doing so great that she barely needed any assistance! I’m glad they spent time together, and my aunt went to church with me on Sunday morning. My aunt and uncle used to live here many years ago, so my uncle always uses his time to go fishing and catch up with old friends. They left early yesterday morning.
Writing Thank You Notes
The Teen has college orientation next week. He has been busy writing thank-you letters for graduation gifts. I pulled out his thank you notes, addresses, and list of gifts and prepared to sit down and help him, but he assured me he could do it. So, I let him write the first one and looked over it. Y’all! This kid wrote the most heartfelt, sincere thank-you notes I have ever seen! Much better than anything I could have come up with! His senior seminar teacher went over this with his class during the school year, and she nailed it! I happily left him to it; he will complete a few daily until they are finished. It’s just another lesson that he doesn’t need me hovering to accomplish things. As a parent, it’s hard sometimes to know when to assist and when to back off.
Catching Up On Reading
I also finished this book.
If Grunge was a part of your musical taste in the 90s, then you undoubtedly know Dave Grohl. I often passed this book, Storyteller, in our local bookstore but always chose something else. When our little bookstore announced it was closing, they had an amazing sale, so I finally grabbed it, and I’m glad I did. It was a great read.
Everything Else
Other than that, I have been slowly catching up on housework when my body allows it, and I will be taking my car into the shop to see about getting the AC fixed. It’s certainly much too hot to go without it. We had some heavy rains last week that made it muggy and miserable. I’m certainly not looking forward to more of those days in the thick of summer. Even Jake has noticed the heat and prefers to stay inside until almost 10 PM. He stays out until about 7 or 8 AM and is inside for the day and most of the evening. And the mosquitos! They are certainly out in FULL FORCE and much earlier for summer. I also have a lot more itching with these bites. But that’s just typical of a Mississippi Delta summer. I love my little town and don’t think I could ever love living anywhere else as much, but it has its disadvantages in the summer. Heat, snakes, mosquitos. Ugh!
Next week I hope to start a pantry inventory to take advantage of summer sales. I like to be all stocked up early before the weather gets cold. Although that seems so far away now, doing a little bit helps us get there economically. Hope you have a great day!

Love Dave Grohl! (Grew up near Seattle in the 90s, so that’s definitely my vibe!) So happy to hear everything went well with your mom.

I’m so glad to read that your mother recovered so well after her surgery. Hope your car a/c will be fixed soon.

Good news that your mom’s surgery went well. It still amazes me that you can be in ICU one day and home the next! So sorry to hear that your car ac died. it’s miserable to have to ride or drive in this heat without it working. My youngest son just recharged my freon and I’m good to go for this season.

It is always so nice to hear from you!!! Writing thank you notes is a lost forum…and unfort. I fall into that category, sigh. Have a beautiful day my friend.

I love that your son is writing thank you notes. It seems to be a lost art…my mom taught me how to write them and I taught my girls, but they definitely didn’t teach it in school. Today most kids seem to send a quick text. I think old fashioned thank you notes are just so much more personal and thoughtful. I hope you get that a/c fixed soon and happy to hear your mom is doing so well!

Happy to hear your mom is doing well. That surely takes a load off. That is wonderful that someone still taught how to write thank you notes in school. A/C in the south is almost a must have. Although I DO remember life before it. I do NOT however remember how I survived it:)

How wonderful that your Momma is doing well! And your son is writing his own thank-you cards? That is amazing. Good job, Mom! I am so happy to hear it is taught in class!!! A nephew of mine got married a year ago, and we just got their thank-you card in the mail!!! Enjoy this slower time, my friend. You earned it!

so glad life is settling down for you. Happy to hear your mom has done so well. Your son sounds like a sweety! Good for him (and you) for writing thank you cards. So many don’t do that these days.
Have a nice week and stay cool!

Great news on your mom! I’m so glad it went well. The air on the car is a bummer though. Hopefully it’s an easy fix.
Hooray for the teen for the nice thank you’s! I know I’m always impressed when I get a nice thank you and feel it speaks well of the graduate and their parents too!

Hello my Lovely! So happy to hear that your Mom is doing well!! Thank you Lord for answered prayers 🙏🏻💕
It’s so crazy that our kiddos are at this stage, isn’t it? Annie’s orientation is in July. In Florida! ugh! Lol Her Dad is taking that shift thankfully. And of course he wrote heartfelt thank you’s – you’re his Momma. 🙂
I hope you stay cool. And find lots of fun sales after you take your inventory! I supposed down there you hibernate in the summer the way we do in the winter. Ha!
Blessings. xo

I’m glad to hear that your mother is doing well. My FIL will have this procedure in a month or two when all of the pre-tests are completed. It’s always nice to hear about a success story.
And how great is it that they talk about thank you notes at school? It’s a dying art, and I’m so glad that it’s still recognized as important in some places. You should be proud of your son for many reasons, and good thank-you notes are one of them.
