Today’s post will be a mix of all the random things I can think of because I just don’t have anything exciting happening this week.
In The Sky
Our little town was buzzing with excitement on social media last Friday when the Dick’s blimp circled for a couple of hours. I had never seen a blimp before, so it was exciting for me, too! Ultimately, nobody could figure out why it was making the rounds over our town. We don’t have Dick’s Sporting Goods and most likely will never have one. The nearest one is over a two-hour drive in either direction.
In The Tree
I’ve been fortunate to catch this beautiful cardinal in our Bradford Pear tree for several days. I love red birds. According to Birds and Bloom, seeing a cardinal is a happy sign that means those we lost will live forever. I was also told that when I was growing up. We don’t see them very often, but I’m always so excited when I do. It makes me think of my Daddy, who is still sorely missed. My daddy and I used to watch the birds in the backyard when I was a teenager. My fondest bird-watching memory with him was watching a mama and daddy dove teaching their two little ones to fly.
In The Stairwell
Last week the smoke detector in our stairwell made a funny beeping sound I had never heard before. It was low enough to where I could reach it, so I took it down and replaced the batteries. Well, it still made that funny sound, so I took it down again and looked at the back of it. There was a chart explaining what each alert meant. The two beeps I heard were to alert me that we needed to buy a new smoke detector! I never knew that smoke detectors had an “expiration date”! But sure enough, on the back was the manufacture date of May 2012. Our smoke detector was 11 years old. So, hubby went to Walmart and purchased two new smoke detectors. We also have one upstairs that was just as old. He installed those quickly, and I am thankful that got taken care of.
In The News
I keep seeing in the news headlines that the virus that shall not be named is returning (did it really ever leave?). It has really lit a fire under my boo-hiney to make sure we are prepared in our home. I’m stocking up on things that got us through the last round, like chicken noodle soup, Kleenex, Mucinex DM, Liquid Tylenol, etc. I’m praying it won’t make the rounds at our home again this year, but I must be realistic because the Teen is in school and around so many other people.
And that’s all I’ve got for today! It is miserable hot here (100 degrees with a “real feel” of 116), so I’m not getting out much. However, next week will be busy-busy with the start of a new school year. Talk to you soon!

Seeing the blimp is cool! I was at work today and apparently missed 4 Chinook aircraft coming over our town.
That thing that must not be mentioned has continued. Our Dr office gets occasional reports, I hope they don’t get more frequent, and I don’t want to repeat it either!
Mandy says
Oh, my Teen would have loved to see the Chinook! He can hear a helicopter coming a mile away and can tell you exactly what kind it is! Haha! Praying for your protection from the thing that must not be named! I wish we could be done with it already.

Hello, my friend. I love the cardinal. I also believe they are a sign from our loved ones. When I see one around here, I say, “Hi, Dad!” I have read about the spike in the virus too. Ugh. Have a cozy weekend!
Mandy says
Billie Jo, I always think of my daddy, too when I see them!
Kim says
We got sick here and it was brutal, it wasn’t that thing, but it was still bad. It made me want to stock up too, who knows what happens this fall/ winter. I’d rather think about that cardinal!!
Mandy says
Yes, the cardinal is much more pleasant to think about! Haha! Yes, stay stocked up just in case!
Live and Learn-Toss and Turn says
When I see a pair of cardinals, I always think about my mother and father, a comforting thought.
Stay cool amidst your miserable hot temperatures.
Mandy says
Yes, seeing a cardinal is very comforting, I agree!

Kind of like the flu – here forever in some form. I have always heard that cardinals are the ‘angles of our loved ones looking over us. I have several pair in my yard everyday – they are so pretty.
Mandy says
Cheryl, I would love to see cardinals everyday! I love to watch my backyard birds. Sometimes I see ones I have never seen before. That’s always exciting!

Hello! That’s pretty cool about the mysterious blimp. I’ve seen a blimp up close, many years ago at the EAA Convention in Oshkosh, WI (near where I grew up). I think it was one of the Goodyear blimps.
Cardinals . . . ah yes, that familiar line about ‘When a cardinal appears, a loved one is near.’ I wonder what the origins of that are? It used to be very rare that I’d see a cardinal at our feeders. This summer though, I’ve been seeing one, and sometimes a pair, several days a week. Some, like my mom, would connect that to my brother’s death in May. But really, it’s probably just that I’m using a different seed blend this year. My mom is convinced the one(s) she sees around her place now are my brother/her son checking in on her. Whatever gives comfort, I guess.
I’ve been seeing that about The Sickiness! Most of the time I don’t fear it or get worked up about it, but then I remind myself I did spend 2 weeks in the hospital because of it . . . doh! I know several people who have had 3 or 4 times. My brother-in-law is struggling with long [sickness]. It’s the gift that keeps on giving!

Deb, I’m praying you don’t ever get that mess again! I know that was very scary! I’m praying it won’t be as bad this year. Here’s hoping!
You just reminded me that I have a bird feeder I need to clean up and get set out for my birds!

I just think that thing that shouldn’t mention will always be around, sigh. It is what it is…we left Florida yesterday and it was 114, we get here to upstate NY for my bil funeral and it’s just as hot, not 110-but close. ANYWAYS, have a beautiful day friend. Stay cool, smiles.
Mandy says
Linda, you are probably right. We will always have to deal with it in some shape or form, I’m sure. Ugh! I’m praying your trip to NY was uneventful! I’m about to go catch up on blogs so I’ll be looking for your update.
