We are slowly settling into summer, and I’ve noticed that lots of it revolve around eating and reading. Haha! I’ve been out in the yard more, tending to my tomato plants, sitting on the patio reading a good book, and playing with the stray kitties. We haven’t had too many oppressively hot days here yet, so I’m taking full advantage of that. However, the mosquitos are starting to become extremely annoying, which is one part of summer I don’t look forward to.
Takeaway Lunch
This past Friday, hubby and I were out running errands, and I was craving some chicken salad, another yummy summer delicacy! We popped into a little shop downtown that sells takeaway food plates, casseroles, and tubs of chicken salad and pimento cheese. We each got one of these little plates, which was so delicious and perfect for a light lunch!
When summer comes, I crave fruits and veggies. I love a good cucumber, tomato salad, and fresh berries, but most of all, I love canteloupe! And I have been eating allllll the canteloupe.
I’ll admit I’m a little spoiled here lately. My hubby loves to chop in the kitchen, so he’s been dicing up canteloupe for me regularly. It is very much appreciated! I have a little bowl of it once a day, and I’m probably a weirdo because I sprinkle a little salt on mine.
Free Flowers
I also scored some freebie flowers from my neighbor! I peeped out the window last Sunday evening before it got dark and noticed she had set two hanging flower plants on the side of the road for the garbage to pick up. I texted her and asked if she would mind if I rescued them, and she told me to help myself!
I have no idea what these flowers are. I was going to do a Google search but haven’t gotten around to it yet.
The white and purple one (maybe a pansy?) is a little worse for wear, and I don’t know if I can bring it back, but the red one is beautiful! Yay for free plants!
Father’s Day Beanie Babies
Of course, I have to share the “Beanie of the Month” that is sitting on our fireplace mantle!
This is “Pops,” a Father’s Day Beanie Baby. He is finally coming out of storage after I revived my collection that had been stored away for over 20 years! He’s a cutie, and I love his little tie!
What I’m Currently Reading
On Saturday, I started reading Atomic Habits by James Clear. This is a book I’ve had stored on my Kindle for who knows how long, but someone I follow on social media mentioned it, and I remembered that I had it. Can I just say that this book is the kick in the pants I have needed? I have wanted to highlight just about every single paragraph in this book. It’s all about habits and how they can make our lives so much easier, making us more creative and productive. I really thought a book on habits would be a huge bore, but I’m telling you, this is a MUST-read if you need some order in your life.
Cleaning Out
The cleaning out continues here when I’m feeling up to it. I found a home for many of the teaching supplies I had accrued over the years, but I still have so many “desk item” type things left. Pens, stationery, office supplies, little odds and ends. I had just shoved most of it in a plastic stacking drawer, but I’m ready to clean that out and maybe pass it along so I don’t try to store anything else! Haha! I also still have more cleaning out to do in the office room closet.
That’s about it for today! What have you been up to so far this summer? Any fun plans for travel? I’d love to hear them!

That take out lunch looks so good!
Great find on the plants. I bet you’ll bring that pansy back to life too.
I like the Beanie – so cute with the tie!

Wow, those plants would be very expensive in my neck of the woods. You got a great deal!! Yay for curbside finds!! The yellow ones definitely look like pansies and the red ones are impatients, I believe. Great score!!
