back to school

We’ve been getting into the swing of back to school for three weeks now and I’m finally coming up for air to update on how our new school year is going.

The Kid

My one and only started 7th grade.  He’s at a new school because his former school only went to 6th grade.  This has been a big change for him, having to change classrooms and mix into a new school with lots of other new kids.  Most of the kids at his former school are here also, so he has adjusted quite nicely.  He LOVES his classes and his teachers.  He’s also become a big fan of high school football games.  He doesn’t play sports, so this was a huge surprise for us!  We are excited to see him wanting to get involved.  All in all, he has done better than I could have ever prayed for and I am very thankful.

Back to School For Me Too

My new school year is in full swing also.  Our theme this year was “Blasting Into Success”, or an outer space theme.  Because I am NOT creative or an artist, I had a place here in town to make a rocket ship and a little alien for my door decoration.  I didn’t really get the words spaced like I wanted to, but it turned out ok and the kids at school loved it.

I celebrated my 44th birthday this past Monday…sick in the bed.  I’ve had a mysterious illness thing going on that comes over me suddenly and makes me run a fever and feel absolutely rotten.  The doctor’s office could only tell me it was an infection somewhere, so I’ve been taking my antibiotics and this weekend was the first time I’ve felt really great in a few weeks.  I hope whatever it was is gone. (UPDATE: It was my gallbladder!) However, harvest season is right around the corner and when the farmers start burning the fields, we all come down with sinus issues.  I’m praying we dodge that as well.  I’m not blaming the farmers…I appreciate them and their hard work.

I’ve also been taking an intensive four-week workshop/class to earn CEUs to renew my teaching license, and I’m happy to report that I finished my final assignment for that and I’m waiting on my grade.  I still have two years before my license expires, but I’m trying to get this behind me.

All in all, we are both adjusting nicely back to our normal routine and getting into the swing of back to school.  I definitely miss those lazy days of summer, but we have a four day weekend coming up!
