With Independence Day only a few days away, you may be getting your menu ready and looking for some delicious 4th of July dessert ideas.  Growing up, I always looked forward to this particular day because my daddy grilled the best barbecue ribs and my mom’s potato salad just couldn’t be beaten!  Our house overflowed with friends and family and if you went home hungry, it was your own fault!

The whole neighborhood was filled with the smells of hamburgers, hot dogs, and ribs grilling.  Families were in their backyards playing in plastic swimming pools.  At night all of the neighborhood kids would gather in the middle of the street and shoot fireworks until the mosquitoes made us surrender.   Over the years, our celebrations have become a little smaller.  This year we are gathering once again with our close friends and family to celebrate this monumental day in America.  I am so excited!

4th of July Dessert Ideas

Along with the main dishes you serve on this day, remember that dessert is just as important!  We always keep it simple with homemade ice cream or watermelon, but thanks to the internet (and Pinterest), there are so many delicious ideas for Fourth of July desserts floating around.  Below are 14 to get you started.

4th of july desserts

  1. Fruit Pizza Recipe
  2. Mini Strawberry & Blueberry Ice Cream Pies
  3. Red, White, and Blue Jello Cups
  4. 4th Of July “Stained Glass” Red, White & Blue Star Cookies
  5. Red, White and Blue Fourth of July Sugar Cookie Tart
  6. Red, White, and Blue Cupcakes in a Jar
  7. Red, White, and Blue Fire Cracker Patriotic Sugar Cookies
  8. Red White and Blue Cheerios Treat Bars
  9. Redhot Patriotic Poke Cupcakes
  10. 4th of July Marshmallow Pinwheels

Are you inspired yet?  I don’t know about you, but anything with fresh fruit on a hot summer’s day is a winner with me.  It is hard to go wrong with any of these beautiful desserts.  I have an aunt who makes festive appetizers and desserts like this for whatever holiday we might be celebrating and they are always a hit with the kids and adults alike.  There is definitely something to be said for the presentation!  I think it just makes treats like this really special.

Do you have big plans for the Fourth of July?  Grab some 4th of July decor and try a recipe or two above to create some special memories.

(I know this pin image says 15 desserts and I have 10 listed.  I have had to remove some broken links, but hope to replace these soon.)

The Jello cups looks awesome! Plus they’re super easy to make – thanks for the idea Mandy!
