There are just some movies from my childhood that still stop me in my tracks and draw me in, no matter how many times I’ve seen them. One of the very first movies I ever remember watching is the musical Grease. To this day, I can still remember the words to all of the songs in the movie.
At 8 years of age, I can tell you that being a Pink Lady and being super impressed with the character of Sandy was high on my list of priorities. It’s amazing that something as simple as a movie sticks with you so many years later. I get a little nostalgic when I see friends on social media so excited that their children have discovered this great classic and love it, too. I have a nine year old son who is not impressed. Yet. Maybe it’s a girl thing?
Last weekend my husband and I watched Rent for the first time and we loved it! I have not seen the movie Frozen, but I knew that Idina Menzel sings the hit “Let it Go”. Imagine my surprise to see her starring in Rent! Although the theme of this musical is a little more mature than I would like for our son to watch at this point, I thought Rent was very well done and the songs really stick with you, just like Grease.
I’ve never been a big movie watcher, but I can honestly say that Netflix is bringing our family together and I am so excited to be off work this summer so I can catch up on all that I have been missing out on.
With summer right around the corner, you may be gearing up for your child’s end of the school year plays and musicals. Perhaps your children are younger and you want to expose them to all of your childhood favorites, and a few new ones as well. What better way to get excited about those than to watch a fun musical together with Netflix as a family?
