milk unleashed

Today is National Milk Day, a day set aside to commemorate the first delivering of milk to homes in sterilized glass bottles in 1878.  Up until that time, milk was delivered by horse-drawn carts to homes and there was no refrigeration, making daily deliveries a must.  This method also wasn’t very sanitary.  Milk has come a long, long way since then!

Now fresh milk is just a grocery store away, but it still has to be kept cold and used by a certain date.  If you love the idea of having milk on hand anytime without having to worry about keeping it chilled or using it within a week or so, then shelf safe milk is a great alternative.  It’s Grade A, contains no added preservatives, and never has to be refrigerated until it’s opened.  It’s milk unleashed!

Today, many major milk brands are offering single-serve sizes of shelf stable milk that can be stored in the pantry for up to 6 months without refrigeration.  This is the ultimate in convenience!  Whether you are at home or on the go, it’s fresh and ready to drink; just chill and serve.  Shelf safe milk is also great to have on hand in case of emergencies, or even if you just forget to pick up a fresh gallon of milk at the store.  I’ve personally tried the Horizon Organic Chocolate Milk and can tell you it’s delicious!

It’s so nice having this kind of milk especially for traveling. It’ll probably take sometime before I come across this here. Thanks for the reminder…

That shelf stable milk is so awesome for traveling. Just take that and a box of cereal and bam, it’s an inexpensive breakfast on the go!

Ok, I have to say that I’ve never heard of shelf stable milk, but I think I need to look for it the next time I’m at the grocery store. It would be a GREAT addition to our emergency kit 🙂
