Have you checked out We Give Books? It’s an amazing online collection of some of the best children’s books that are free to read online. Each time you read a book you also get to “give” a book. For each book read online, We Give Books donates a book to a leading literacy program to make sure other children who desperately need access to books get them. This is probably my most favorite online resource for children’s books.
We Give Books is offering Read For My Summer, a FREE online summer reading program for children to keep them reading even though school is out. It’s easy to sign up, and each week you will receive an email highlighting the book chosen for that week. The book can be read online at We Give Books, and there will also be fun activities and reading tips offered to help your child get the most out of each book. Read For My Summer will be a 10-week program.
At the end of the program, you can print off a customized reading achievement certificate for your child to reward them for their hard work. The program kicks off on June 11. I can’t wait to share these stories with my own son. These books would also be great to tie in to any summer reading assignments your child might have received from their own schools, like mine did. We Give Books just might have some of those books your child might have been assigned available online.
Just thought I would pass this along in case any of you were looking for more ideas for summer literacy activities for your children. Enjoy!
* I did not receive any compensation from We Give Books to write this, nor was I asked to write this. Just passing this along for those who might be interested.

LOVE this idea! We believe in Summer Bridge Activities, and are huge proponents of practicing reading over the summer (we have seen first-hand, through test results over the last four years how important this is). BUT, one of our three children is a reluctant reader. He loves the computer, however, and I think the idea of reading on-line just might make him excited about doing this. Thanks!
