I love reading books about things that I am interested in learning more about. However, as a busy working mom, I don’t always have the time or luxury to sit down and read. As a librarian, that probably doesn’t sound very professional of me, but the truth is that as much as reading plays a huge part in my everyday job, it mostly consists of reading children’s books. While this isn’t a terrible thing, sometimes I just want to read for pleasure and read a story in which there are no talking animals. Clearly, I’m not hard to please.
It’s pretty obvious as a blog owner that I love blogging, and I’m constantly looking for ways to better myself when it comes to this little place of mine here on the internet, but finding the time to improve my blogging skills through reading is tough. I’ve discovered several great podcasts aimed at improving blogging skills, and then I discovered Audible! I love the fact that I can actually listen to a real book (no talking animals!), learn from it, and all the while I can take care of other things, like driving to work, making dinner, or sitting through a marathon faculty meeting.
I’m kidding.
There is a great selection of books aimed at bloggers to help you learn some great SEO skills, write amazing content, or even just learn how to blog for beginners. Audible content includes more than 250,000 audio programs from leading audiobook publishers, broadcasters, entertainers, magazine and newspaper publishers, and business information providers. That’s a whole lot of choice. So what am I currently listening to with my free 30 day trial? I’m a huge fan of Elizabeth Gilbert, whose name you may recognize as being the author of Eat, Pray, Love. Her latest book is Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear and goodness knows all bloggers could use all of the creative magic they can get, right?
Even if you just like reading for pleasure and not necessarily learning a new skill, Audible has a wonderful selection of fiction and non-fiction audio books. Audible Studios recently released two-time Academy Award winner Emma Thompson’s audio interpretation of Henry James’s gothic novel The Turn of the Screw.
If you think you don’t have time to read, at least take the time to listen to a good book. Sign up for your free 30 day trial of Audible and start enjoying a little time for yourself again.
